About Us
Allegro Music was founded in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1985 by Julie Parker Perry. At the time Julie was a choir director at a local church and was frustrated with how long it took to get her music orders delivered. She decided to open her own music distributorship to serve choir directors around the Memphis area. Her "allegro" service was immediately appreciated by her fellow choir directors and the home-based business soon evolved into a full-service music store. Other product lines were added including piano method books, Suzuki Method materials, classical collections, popular music, music supplies, and wedding music.
In early 1998 the store went onto the Web with its online component, Allegro Music Online. It took a while for customers to find us on the web, but once they did, the online store rapidly became a viable business itself with sales to customers in every state and dozens of foreign countries.
In 2010 Julie moved the retail store to a new location in nearby Germantown, TN. The store continues to flourish and new products are added constantly.
Despite their growth, Allegro Music and Allegro Music Online remain family owned and family managed businesses. Julie still runs the show and her husband, Ed (a professor at a local university), manages the website. All five of our children worked in the store during their teenage years, but have now moved on to their own careers. We pride ourselves in giving personal service to our customers and hope that our customers find our store and our website both friendly and useful.
